Physics, mathematics, cartography, geodesy, botany, zoology and mineralogy in the 18 th century benefited from Teide as a natural laboratory and a geographic landmark. It resembles an unknown and desolate planet where absence of any type of life is notorious, although it has become the largest natural protected site in the Canary Islands Autonomous Community.
